As part of my social innovation initiative, working closely with communities to design an ongoing healthy lifestyle I am experimenting with different engagement resources to highlight the importance of a balanced nutrition and physical activity among children. As a complement of the sustainable vegetable gardens in schools, I created some animated videos to easily explain all the benefits of fruits and vegetables.

Here is an example:

I felt that children reacted more positively to the videos rather than me standing in front of them and speaking about eating healthy. After the videos are presented, we discuss in various groups the key messages and kids can express their thoughts and concerns.

During the session, I also save some time to discuss consequences of not following a balanced diet. In St Lucia, the population getting non-transmittable diseases is growing fast, that is why raising awareness among vulnerable groups is crucial.
