As auxiliaries to the public authorities in the humanitarian field, National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have a special responsibility to support their authorities to develop policy approaches that protect vulnerable persons, particularly from disasters, crises and emergencies. The IFRC serves as their representative in global and regional policy fora, where it works together closely with the ICRC.   We refer to our work in this area as humanitarian diplomacy.

Our calls to action

Invest in local humanitarians

Local humanitarians provide effective disaster assistance at a fraction of the cost of international responders.

Protect vulnerable migrants and displaced persons

Around the world, many migrants and displaced persons are facing unacceptable risks to their lives, health and dignity.

Save lives with strong disaster laws

Well-designed laws and policies are among the strongest tools in fighting disasters and adapting to climate change.

Reach the last mile in community health

Community health volunteers are the critical link for pandemic control and the health care of the most vulnerable.
