Majd is a Syrian Arab Red Crescent volunteer at the Kiswe operations room. The volunteers work three shifts across the day and night to ensure 24-hour cover.
Many National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the Middle East and North Africa region have taken an innovative approach on first aid. Examples of this were heard in Tunis last week, where the representatives of 15 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies gathered for a regional first aid for 10 years.
The Red Crescent has stepped up its efforts in delivering emergency medical services and organizing first aid training in conflict-torn Yemen. In January, four new ambulances have been put into service by Yemen Red Crescent Society.
In order to prepare people for possible disaster, the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network has joined forces with the United Nations Development Fund and USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance to alert residents to the danger and recommend actions to take before, during, and after the collapse of the dam.
