Kuala Lumpur, 15 October 2019 – Preparing for a disaster is a crucial part of survival if you live in a disaster-prone area. But how do you prepare for something like an earthquake? Or what do you do when the unthinkable happens?

A virtual reality earthquake simulation will allow users to experience an earthquake and learn basic survival tips. The VR simulation will set up at the 7th Asia Pacific Urban Forum in Penang, Malaysia from 15 to 17 October 2019.

The virtual reality programme was developed by the IFRC’s Asia Pacific Disaster Resilience Centre, the Korean Red Cross, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Sungjoo Foundation.

This simulation is part of the IFRC’s continued efforts to highlight the importance of disaster preparedness and building community resilience. The IFRC booth will also profile the work of Red Cross Red Crescent teams across the region on urban resilience and highlight one of the deadliest natural hazards facing humanities – heatwaves.
