Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction
22-26 May, 2017 – Cancun, Mexico
From 22-26 May, the Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) is taking place in Cancun, Mexico. This is the world’s foremost gathering on reducing disaster risk and building the resilience of communities and nations. The fifth GPDRR follows the 2015 UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, where Governments adopted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction – a 15-year agreement between States to reduce disaster risk.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies will be actively participating in the conference with a delegation led by IFRC Secretary General, Elhadj As Sy. The delegation will include senior representatives and technical experts from National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Red Cross Red Crescent reference centres .
IFRC will be highlighting the importance of strengthening local humanitarian capacity – an issue that has grown in prominence since last year’s World Humanitarian Summit.
