Disaster Risk Reduction laws are important because they spell out DRR as a national priority.

These laws are particularly important for establishing institutions and roles and responsibilities for disaster risk management, at the national level as well as the local level – in particular through establishing multi-sectoral committees and standing agencies/offices for disaster risk management – and making these institutions responsible for incorporating DRR into their plans and decisions.
