Volunteers from Magen David Adom’s (MDA) Baqa al-Gharbiyye branch collected and packed more than 900 food parcels for Muslim families during Ramadan in June.

The food drive, supported by local shops and supermarkets, was launched to support low-income families and those in need of extra support.

MDA volunteer manager, Frid Abu-Zkika, said: “We began the operation locally but when I noticed how responsive everyone was, I recruited many other MDA volunteers and employees so we could expand.”

During the operation, dozens of MDA volunteers were stationed across seven supermarkets in the city to collect food. The donations were then packed into 900 parcels and given out to vulnerable families identified by welfare services as well mosques and community groups.

MDA Director General, Eli Bin, said: “I am proud of our volunteers and grateful to the local community who came forward with open hearts to help. At MDA, we do everything in our power to provide food so that families from different communities and religions can enjoy holiday meals throughout the year.”
