Tanzania: Floods

Torrential rains have caused massive landslides near Mount Hanang in northern Tanzania, sweeping away houses, roads, bridges, schools, and farmland, as well as claiming the lives of at least 67 people. More than 100 people have been injured, and thousands of families have lost their homes and livelihoods. Tanzania had already been battling floods since mid-November, and more rainfall is expected in the coming months as a result of the El Nino phenomenon. The IFRC and its membership seek CHF 4 million (CHF 3 million of which is expected to be raised by the IFRC Secretariat) to support the Tanzania Red Cross to each 75,000 people with life-saving assistance.
