The Red Cross and Red Crescent has a long history of innovation and continues to innovate in communities around the world. However, the pace and scope of change unfolding in the world is unprecedented and requires consistent agility and innovation. Anticipating future crises means not only developing more forward-looking strategies and operations, but also understanding the possible political, social, and economic contexts that can and might shape the future of humanitarian need.
Understanding these shifting circumstances is only part of the picture. However, our insights into trends and change must also lead to practical action and change within our work. The Solferino Academy is our approach to pioneer innovative methods and embed futures and foresight approaches within planning, policy, strategy, and operations. Our aim is to ensure that we are fit for a range of possible futures and able to adapt quickly to emerging challenges and that ultimately we can better support affected communities.
